Waxing is not for everyone - Contraindications
  • If you are taking Accutane, I am unable to wax any part of the body.  This medication causes the skin to become very thin and fragile, possibly causing the skin to tear.   Waxing can be resumed after a year of discontinuing the drug.
  • Users of Retin-A can be waxed, but not on the areas where Retin-A is applied.
  • Blood thinners, i.e. Coumadin.  I need a physician’s authorization.
  • Autoimmune diseases – lupus, AIDS
  • Cancer therapy – chemotherapy, radiation
  • Varicose veins or broken capillaries
  • Bruising or poor circulation
  • Broken skin, open skin infection, inflamed skin, or active herpes virus
  • Any disease of the skin
  • Warts, moles or any unidentified skin problem
  • Very thin skin
  • Cold sores or eye infections
  • Sunburn
  • Recent scar tissue or operation
  • The skin on an elderly client or diabetic
  • Do not use a tanning bed 24 hours prior to waxing
  • Do not use a depilatory cream for at least 1 week or more prior to waxing
Tips following waxing
  • Your skin will be much more sensitive to the sun following waxing, so avoid tanning and be sure to use sunscreen with at least SPF 20.
  • Avoid use of exfoliants (scrubs), AHAs, glycolics, and other ingredients designed to peel or exfoliate the skin for 72-hours following waxing.
  • For body waxing, a gentle scrub can be used 72 hours post-waxing.
  • Avoid heavy exercise/sweating for 8 hours following waxing, especially if you are particularly sensitive or irritated.
  • To soothe any irritation, apply cold compresses to the affected area.
